Generation Settings

Customize how your session summaries are written. Scribe’s generation settings let you define the tone, depth, and focus of each summary — making it easy to match your group’s storytelling style.

Where Generation Settings Can Be Set

Generation settings can be configured at multiple points in your workflow:

  • Campaign Defaults

When you first create a campaign, you’ll set your default generation preferences. These can be edited at any time from the Campaign Settings page.

  • Per-Session Customization

When uploading a new session, your campaign defaults will be shown. You can either use them as-is or overwrite them for that specific session.

  • Smart Rewrite Adjustments

After a session is processed, you can revise the summary using the Smart Rewrite feature. This allows you to reapply or tweak your generation settings — such as tone, emphasis, or style — to regenerate a better-fitting draft.

Content Length

Slider: Shorter ↔ Longer

Adjust the overall length and depth of the summary:

  • Shorter – A concise overview of major events.

  • Longer – A detailed retelling that includes character moments and subplots

Length in action: Shortest vs. Default vs. Longest

Other settings: More dramatic + Epic + Include Character Quotes

Writing Style

Slider: Factual ↔ Dramatic

Define the voice and narrative tone of the summary:

  • Factual – Objective, straightforward, and easy to skim

  • Dramatic – Rich in emotion and storytelling detail

This setting adjusts the writing style to fit your table's mood.

Tone

Select one or more emotional flavors to influence the writing. You can combine tones for nuanced results:

  • Lighthearted – Playful and upbeat, with a sense of fun and levity

  • Serious – Grounded and straightforward, focused on clarity and realism

  • Epic – Grand and heroic, with high stakes and dramatic flair

  • Whimsical – Imaginative and quirky, with a surreal or storybook quality

  • Humorous – Lightly sarcastic or funny, highlighting character antics and comic beats

  • Dark – Gritty, somber, or ominous in tone, suited for mature or suspenseful stories

Tone impacts word choice, pacing, and how moments are framed in the summary.

Emphasis

Tell Scribe which elements to focus on in the summary. You can select multiple emphasis areas:

  • Combat – Battles and tactical events

  • Roleplay – Interpersonal drama and character arcs

  • Exploration – Discovery, environments, and worldbuilding

  • Dialogue – Conversations, persuasion, and spoken moments

Details

Control the level of in-world flavor and mechanical context in your summary:

  • Include character quotes – Inserts notable in-character lines pulled from your session audio

  • Include game mechanics – Adds mechanical details like dice rolls, spell names, abilities, or other system-specific references

These options let you fine-tune the balance between immersive storytelling and gameplay clarity.
